Now, where do I begin, you think…..?

  • First, take one room at a time, and finish with that room before you move on to the next one. The same goes for the garage, attic or basement. If you don’t get to all the rooms, there is always next year’s garage sale.
  • Decide if you are starting with the closet, or those big boxes under your bed. Then make piles: ?”keep”, ?”sell”, ?”donate”, ?”throw away”.
  • What to keep? If you haven’t worn it in 3 years, it’s too small, and have no sentimental or monetary value – it goes. You know the little knick-knacks you got from aunt Velma, and feel you have to keep? Either display them all together, as a collection, or pack them neatly away in a clearly marked box, and save in the attic or basement.
  • Sometimes you have to be hard, and ask yourself if these things actually mean anything to you. You will be surprised how much you will be able to part with. And how nice it will feel afterwards.
  • Now you will have some piles with things you want to keep. The next step is to divide those into “keep accessible”, and “going into storage”. Clear plastic bins that are clearly marked is a great way to store most things, and makes it easier to find later.

It can be hard to decide what to part with, and having someone help you on the way will help. If you are interested in some gentle nudging on what goes, and some coaching on what to do with the things that stay, just give me a call.
