2017 Mortgage Interest Rates are climbing and have increased by almost a full point since the election in November. As of 1/9/2017 the average 30-year fixed conventional mortgage is at 4.5%. This is not good for homebuyers but to keep things in perspective here is the 30-year fixed conventional mortgage rates as of January for the last six years; 2016-3.87%, 2015-3.67%, 2014-4.43%, 2013-3.41%, 2012-3.92%, 2011-4.76% and 2010-5.03%. In contrast the Dow has increased 1,631 points since the election. Remember, increases in the stock market typically equate to increases in mortgage interest rates. No one can predict what will happen over the next year with such a huge unknown moving into the white house.
